Friday at the Fair Concert History

Over the years, the La Plata County Fair has hosted live concerts with a variety of artists. Known as Friday at the Fair, these highly anticipated events have provided musical entertainment to large, enthusiastic crowds. 2023
The Bellamy Brothers

The Bellamy Brothers played to a huge crowd of devoted fans at the La Plata County Fair in 2023.

About the Artists:  The Bellamy Brothers officially lifted off the launch pad in 1976 when their single, “Let Your Love Flow,” became an instant smash in both the U.S. and Europe. At sold-out concerts, the Bellamys shared the stage with Loggins & Messina, the Doobie Brothers and the Beach Boys with their patented blend of rock/country music. By the late ‘70’s the Bellamys emerged on the country charts with another bona fide smash, “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me)” rocketed them to the top of the country charts. Asleep At The Wheel

Asleep at the Wheel performed a high-energy concert for loyal fans at the 2022 La Plata County Fair.

About the Artists:  Founded in 1970, Asleep at the Wheel has been part of the American Roots Music landscape for more than 50 years. Although the band got its start on a farm in Paw Paw, west Virginia, Asleep at the Wheel became a cornerstone of the Austin, Texas music scene upon its arrival in 1973. Inspired by western swing and honky-tonk country, the band has accrued 10 grammy awards. In the fall, a career retrospective recorded with the current lineup — and a few special guests — will carry the band back onto the road, where they’ve remained a staple for five decades. Read more.

Michael Martin Murphey

Michael Martin Murphy played to an enthusiastic crowd at the 2021 La Plata County Fair.

About the Artist:  A loyal American son from Texas, Murphey is best known for his chart-topping hits “Wildfire,” “Carolina In The Pines,” “What’s Forever For,” “Long Line of Love,” “Geronimo’s Cadillac,” “Cowboy Logic” and many more.  Murphey’s long-running incarnation as a purveyor of the music, lifestyle, and values of the American West is one of many musical mantles he has worn over the years. To track his career path is to span the country itself, from coming of age in the Texas folk music scene, to Los Angeles to Colorado to Nashville and then back to his native Texas. Read more.

Chevel Sheppard

Chevel Sheppard performed in concert to an adoring crowd at the La Plata County Fair in 2019.

About the Artist:  Chevel first charmed America in 2018, as the champion of season 15 of The Voice, nurtured by coach Kelly Clarkson. With bold sincerity and a sparrow’s natural instincts, Chevel sings modern country music that toes tradition’s best lines. For her debut EP “Everybody’s Got a Story,” the 20-year-old hand-picked intricately woven story songs and relatable gems with veteran savvy––then made them irrevocably her own. Sundance Head

The concert performed by Sundance Head was eagerly anticipated and enjoyed by all at the 2018 La Plata County Fair.

About the Artist:  Throughout the course of his career, Sundance Head has written and recorded with ZZ Top, been a top finisher in two major network talent competitions, has had three #1 songs on the Texas music charts and has toured with some of the top artists in the business. Sundance comes by his musical talent honestly, growing up in a household watching and learning from his father Roy Head, who had a hit in the 60’s with “Treat Her Right.”  Read more.

Kyle Park

The crowd at the 2017 La Plata County Fair thoroughly enjoyed Kyle Park’s concert performance.

About the Artist:  Kyle grew up in Leander, Texas (just north of Austin), soaking up the tunes of Merle Haggard, George Jones, Roger Miller and more. His Dad introduced him to classic country, the lyrically driven storytelling of Opry legends that would eventually help mold him into the artist that he is today. In 2005, at the age of 19, Kyle released his debut album, “Big Time” and began touring soon after. Since then, he has celebrated numerous #1 Texas radio singles, headlined thousands of shows across North America & Europe, and opened for George Strait, Clint Black, and Willie Nelson, to name a few.
